    Foxes Curriculum letter

Happy New Year to you all, I hope Christmas was restful, joyous and provided quality time together.

    English

In English this term we will be writing a non-chronological report on the magic of tea. Whilst writing we will be inspired by the story Cloud Tea Monkeys who take us on an adventure up the Chinese mountain range to a secret magical tea plantation. We will concentrate on high quality language, expanded noun phrases and the accurate use of the determiner ‘a’ or ‘an’. Our reading book this term will be The Girl Who Stole an Elephant, written by Nizrana Farook.

    Maths

In maths we will be consolidating our knowledge of the, 3, 4 and 8 times tables and learning our 9 and 11 times tables. We will be continuing our understanding of geometry, parallel and perpendicular lines and then moving on to understand fractions of shapes and fractions of amounts. We will begin to count backwards past zero in known multiples.

    Religious Education

In RE we will be learning to think philosophically about what is meant by a good life. We will consider good from a religious and non-religious worldview and how the meaning of good can shift depending on the context. We will reflect on our learning and decide what is a good life in the context of our own lives.

    Science

In science we will continue our study of forces and magnets, there is lots of practical exploration to enjoy this term. We will continue to work scientifically with asking questions, making prediction, recording accurate results and writing conclusions.

    P.E

Our PE days will be Tuesday and Wednesday. Please send your child in to school wearing full PE kit – please check the uniform list. They will need a water bottle. Both PE sessions are delivered inside this term but a jumper or cardigan will still be needed through the school day.

    Geography

Our geography unit is the study of rainforests. We will build on knowledge of continents, understanding of the equator and the tropics and begin with understanding where the rainforests are in the world. Moving forward, we will work to appreciate the role of the rainforests on our world and how human activity can have a lasting impact.

    Art

Our art unit of study links to geography this term. Our artist of study is Henri Rousseau who is well known for his art work on rainforests. We will look at how a finished piece has a clear background, midground and foreground. We will use a range of material to build texture when overlapping and layering. We will use tracing and printing to add a rainforest creature to our finished piece. These finished pieces begin our geography display and will be on display all term for the children to enjoy.
