SEND Hub Spring Term
Curriculum Letter

Below is an outline of the things we will be learning this half term. We are following a theme throughout all areas of the curriculum. Our topic this half term is ‘Splish Splash Splosh!’

English

In English we will be looking at mini topics within our theme of Splish Splash Splosh, including weather, habitats, watery adventures and the seaside. We are continuing to practise our sentence building skills and use of punctuation. We are focusing on the ‘curly caterpillar’ letters in handwriting- c a e s d o g f q.

Maths

In Maths we are going to continue to develop our understanding of place value and the value of different quantities to 100. We will be learning different ways of solving addition and subtraction sums. We are also going to practise counting in 2s, 5s,10s and 3s.

Science

In Science will be exploring the different states of matter- solids, liquids and gases and how we can change them.

Geography

In History we will be learning about how beach holidays have changed throughout the years. We will also be looking at how Skegness has changed from the past to the present day.

PSHE (Jigsaw)

In PSHE we will be following the Jigsaw topic of ‘Changing Me’ in line with the whole school. As we are mixed year group class the children will learn the PSHE themes and objectives that are appropriate for their own year group.

DT

In DT we will explore how to make a boat. This will include looking at different materials that float and sink, that are waterproof and absorbent before designing and making a boat.

Computing

This term we will be looking at the floor robots- beebots and how we give them commands and use them with purpose and accuracy.

PE

Our PE sessions will take place on Wednesday and Thursday and will begin on Wednesday 21st January. Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kits on these days.

Farm School  We are continuing our visits to the Askefield Project for Farm School. Please see the additional letter for the dates we will be going. Please ensure children have suitable clothing for being outdoors for these sessions, this term that may include, sun hats and suncream as well as coats and boots.
