Class 4 Curriculum letter

Welcome back to the end of our summer term! I hope you all had a fantastic half-term holidays. Mrs Simpson and I will carry on working together as the Class 4 team for this final stretch, and we are excited about all the new topics and activities planned for the weeks ahead. Below is an overview of this term’s learning. If you have any questions about this or any other aspect of school life, please feel free to get in touch with us.

Maths

We will be starting out this term focusing again on fractions in both year groups. Additionally, we will be working on squaring numbers, Roman numerals and consolidating skills with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

English

In English this term we will be using a fiction book called ‘Rain Dancer’ set in Mayan civilisation, to help build our skills with descriptive story writing. We will also continue to have 1 lesson a week of various grammar teaching to help build spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.

Science

This term in science we will be investigating humans and other animals, asking questions about how we as organisms work and how we compare to other creatures.

Religious Education

This term in RE, we will be using Christian and humanist world-views to help us answer the philosophical question ‘are all people equal’.

P.E.

PE will be on Tuesday (cricket) and Wednesday (Swimming). Please ensure children have the correct P.E uniform, all earrings are removed and hair is tied back on P.E days.

Humanities

This half term we will be doing another history topic! We will be focusing on the Maya, placing them into our chronology and timeline, and learning about their customs and ways of life.

Foundation

We will also explore subjects designed to nurture creativity and emotional development such as PSHE, in which we will be studying the topic of ’changing me’. In music, we will be looking at Motown music. Additionally, we will be continuing learning how to order food from cafes in French and doing some cooking in DT towards the end of this long term.

Kind regards Miss Miles and Mrs Simpson
