Class 4 Curriculum letter

Welcome to the new academic year. Mrs Simpson and I are very much looking forward to being the class 4 team this year and feel very privileged to teach this group of children. Having already spent the afternoon with the children at the end of last term I know that year is going to be fabulous and we will no doubt be the best class at Friskney!

English

This term in English we will be building on our descriptive skills by writing character and setting descriptions. We will continue to use the Talk for Writing approach within our writing using the fiction text Tree Giants to write a non- Chronological report.  In reading we will be using the text Percy Jackson as our class text alongside looking at extracts of poetry and non-fiction.

Maths

In Maths, we will look at Number and place value, mental methods, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division

Religious Education

In RE, we will be discussing Does Creativity matter, by the end of this unit the children will better understand the relationship between human and being creative by using questions and skills drawn from theology and the human/ social sciences.

Science

  In science this term, we will investigate materials, we will be looking at solids, liquids and gases. We discuss reversible and irreversible changes as well the formation of materials.

P.E

PE will be on Tuesday (OOA ) and Friday (Tag Rugby). Please ensure children have the correct P.E uniform, all earrings are removed and hair is tied back on P.E days.

Geography

Geography this term will be looking at Boston to Boston. The children will learn about the Boston Pilgrims. They will look at differences and similarities between Boston England and Boston New York. They will also look at trade and economy as well as land use in each area.

Foundation

We will also cover subjects to help develop creativity and emotions- PSHE will be looking at ‘being me’, music-Livin’ on a Prayer. In computing we will be looking at the media of video, French will be looking at colours, animals and questions and Art will be learning about Van Gogh and working on our sketching and painting skills.
