The first term of our new year is here and it’s lovely to welcome all the children back to school.
In English this term we will be concentrating on descriptive language as we study poetry and fiction writing. We will be using our ‘Talk for writing’ approach and be learning an entire text before writing our own. We will be developing our handwriting to form neat cursive letters.
Our reading book this term will be ‘The Firework Makers Daughter’.
In maths we will be consolidating our knowledge of the 2,5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables. We will be working on understanding the value of each digit in a 3 and 4 digit number before moving on to calculate with number. We will recap time in 5 minute intervals past the hour.
In RE we will be learning to ask theological questions about what people believe. We will meet Surjit, who is a Sikh boy living in Punjabi. We will learn about what is important to him in his life before considering what is important to us in our lives.
In science we will study the formation of rocks and soils. We will work at grouping and classifying rocks according to their physical properties, hardness and permeability. We will look at how fossils are formed and what fossils can tell us. To finish we will experiment with soil and see what our school soil is made up of.
Our PE days will be Tuesday and Wednesday. Please send your child in to school wearing full PE kit – please check the uniform list. They will need a water bottle and a school jumper or cardigan as PE will be outside so long as it isn’t raining.
Our geography unit is the study of mountains, rocks and volcanoes and ties in with our science learning. We will work on our understanding of how the natural landscape was formed and the impact of the tectonic plates.
In French we will be developing our spoken language. We will look at phonics to help us with reading, spelling and pronunciation.
We will begin the term with our first art unit, studying the work of Yayoi Kusama who is a Japanese artist. We will take her inspiration of vibrant colour and use of repeated pattern to produce our own work of art.
We are proud to be part of Lincoln Anglican Academy Trust
