Curriculum Letter

I hope everyone has had a lovely summer break and ready for lots of exciting learning opportunities through our Autumn term. This is an overview of our learning topics for this term.

English

PHONICS: YEAR 1 will continue to access daily phonics sessions to ensure they are ready for their end of year Phonics Screening Check in June.

‘Talk for Writing’ – our text focus for this term is Information Texts.

During English sessions, there will also be a focus on spelling and handwriting practice.

READING BOOKS: Reading books will be sent home that match your child’s phonics ability. To improve your child’s reading fluency, your child should practise reading each book at least three times. Please comment in their yellow reading records when they have read.

Maths

Children will explore mathematical concepts associated with the following topics:-

  • Measurement: Time
  • Number and Place Value
  • Number: Addition.

 

Science

We will be learning and exploring ‘Everyday Materials’ and we will observe seasonal and weather changes throughout each term. Autumn being the focus this term.

 

Geography

We will learn about the different ‘Continents and Oceans’ of the world. The children will develop their mapping skills and how to use atlases and globes to find places.

RE

Our focus for this term is ‘Who is God to Christians and why does he matter to them’.

PSHE (Jigsaw)

Our focus for this term will be Being Me in my World’.

Art and Design

Our Artist for this term is Paul Klee’. We will explore artwork inspired by Klee and develop our drawing and painting skills recreating art pieces in the style of Klee.

Computing

Our focus will be ‘Technology around us’ where children will recognise technology in school and how to use it responsibly. Also, to teach children that there is lots of useful technology in the world they grow up in.

Music

Our music topic for this term is ‘Hey You!’ following our Charanga Scheme of Music.

PE

Our PE sessions will take place on Monday and Friday. Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kits on these days.
