KS1 Summer Term 2 
Curriculum Letter

This is an overview of our learning topics for this term.

English

PHONICS: YEAR 1 will continue to access daily phonics sessions in their progress groups to ensure they are ready for their Phonics Screening Check in June. English writing will be based on the following text ‘Meerkat Mail’ with a focus on narrative this term. Reading Books will be changed every Friday so your child can practise their reading fluency of the story throughout the week. Please comment in your child’s yellow reading record when your child has read.

Maths

Children will explore mathematical concepts associated with the following topics:-

✓ Measurement – Money, capacity and volume

✓ Number – multiplication, division

✓ Fractions

✓ Shape – Position and direction

Science

We will be learning about ‘Plant and Animal Life Cycles’ and observing seasonal changes. We will investigate this more during our time at the farm.

Geography

This term in geography we will be comparing the physical and human features between the UK and Australia. This term in history we will be learning about the Monarchy – Kings and Queens.

RE

Our learning question for this term is ‘Is there a right way to worship?’

PSHE (Jigsaw)

The topic for this term is ‘CHANGING ME!’

DT

This term we will focus on food technology. The children will look at healthy summer recipes and prepare food for a healthy fruit/ vegetable kebabs.

Computing

This term’s unit of work is ‘Robot Algorithms’ this introduces the children to early programming concepts using the Bee-Bot floor robots.

Music

We will be exploring the unit ‘Your Imagination’ using the Charanga music scheme.

PE

Our PE sessions will take place on Monday and Friday. Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kits on these days. Swimming will take place on Wednesdays (from 29th April – 22nd July; please note there will be no session on 3rd June). Please ensure children come to school in PE kits and bring their swimming essentials in a bag.
