Welcome to Green Class!
We are Year 3!
Miss Goodwin is our teacher and we also have help from Mrs Simpson, Mrs Redford, Mrs Scott and Mrs Wood.
Now we are in Key Stage 2 we have a lot of new responsibilities and expectations. We are learning to become more independent and to produce fantastic pieces of work every day. We are also working really hard to get our pen licenses this year, fingers crossed!
Things to remember:
PE kits are needed in school all week as even though Mrs Pott's teaches on a Wednesday we do have other P.E lessons throughout the week.
Swimming kits are needed on a Tuesday.
Homework is handed out on a Friday to be returned on a Tuesday.
Spellings are tested every Friday.
We have PE with Mrs Potts on Mondays, we will be outside for PE unless the weather is bad so it is important to have indoor and outdoor kits. With winter just around the corner, if your child doesn't have an outdoor kit they are going to get very cold!
We also go swimming every Tuesday so please make sure your child has their swimming kits. Payments of £2.50 per child are asked for to help pay for travel and the lessons. Thank you to those who contribute every week.
Homework is handed out on a Friday to be returned on a Tuesday. Your child should receive Maths, Literacy and spelling homework but this may occasionally only be one piece of Maths or Literacy. It is very important for us to remember to learn our weekly spellings , they come home on a Friday and are tested the next Friday. There may also sometimes be a project or topic piece to complete as well, a separate deadline would be given for this.
Please make sure your child reads at least 3 times a week but every night would be good to develop those very important reading skills.
In Maths this half-term we are learning how to tell the time, if your child has an analogue watch please encourage them to wear it. Even better if their watch is split into to and past the hour! We will also be learning our 8x table and doing some graph work.
In Literacy we are reading traditional fairy tales and adapting the Three Little Pigs to our own version. We will then write our own fairy tale and create a class book of stories to go in our reading corner! We are also writing arguments and persuasive texts this term.
Our topic this term is Mayflower Magic which is all about our local area. We will be completing map work and orienteering as well a learning about the Pilgrim Fathers and their endeavour to America.
In Green Class we are budding scientists, this term we are learning about plants. We shall be growing our own plants and seeing the conditions plants need to grow. Some will be placed in the dark, some will be over-water and some will receive no water. We shall let you know what happens!
