Welcome to Green Class!
We are Year 3!
Miss Goodwin is our teacher and we also have help from Mrs Simpson, Mrs Redford, Mrs Scott and Mrs Wood.
Now we are in Key Stage 2 we have a lot of new responsibilities and expectations. We are learning to become more independent and to produce fantastic pieces of work every day. We are also working really hard to get our pen licenses this year, fingers crossed!
Things to remember:
PE kits are needed on a Wednesday however it is best for them to be in school all week in case we do any extra PE.
Swimming kits are needed on a Tuesday.
Homework is handed out on a Friday to be returned on a Tuesday.
Spellings are tested every Friday.
We have PE with Mrs Potts on Wednesdays, we will be outside for PE unless the weather is bad so it is important to have indoor and outdoor kits. With winter just around the corner, if your child doesn't have an outdoor kit they are going to get very cold!
We also go swimming every Tuesday so please make sure your child has their swimming kits. Payments of £2.50 per child are asked for to help pay for travel and the lessons.
Homework is handed out on a Friday to be returned on a Tuesday. Your child should receive Maths, Literacy and spelling homework. It is very important for us to remember to learn our weekly spellings , they come home on a Friday and are tested the next Friday. There may sometimes be a project or topic piece to complete as well, a separate deadline would be given for this.
Please make sure your child reads at least 3 times a week but every night would be good to develop those very important reading skills.
In Maths this half-term we are learning some very exciting new methods for addition and subtraction, we like to challenge ourselves in Green Class!
In Literacy we are reading Fantastic Mr Fox, Roald Dahl is one of our favourite authors! We are going to be describing characters from the book and writing non-chronological reports about the animals in it.
Our topic this half-term is all about the Stone Age, so far we have made our own Stone Age paints from mixing blackberries, chalk and charcoal with water. It got a little bit messy! We then used these to create cave paintings as we know this was one of the only ways to communicate during Pre-historic Britain (that was a long time ago!) Next we are going to use the laptops to research some of the animals that lived during the Stone Age, can you think of any animals that lived in Pre-historic Britain?
In Green Class we love Science! This half-term we are learning about rocks and soils. We have been rock detectives, looking at all the ways rocks are used in and around school. In the next few weeks we are going to be making sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks. We will share lots of pictures with you when we make them. We are making them out of chocolate, do you think we should eat them afterwards? Miss Goodwin does!
Keep checking our page for updates on what we are doing in Green Class this term!
